Inventory remains tight in the $15k–$30k segment
The sub-$30,000 used vehicle segment in Lake County continues to see low supply. Buyers are competing more aggressively for clean vehicles, and sellers know it. We're seeing very few price reductions in this range even when inspection findings support negotiation.
Average mileage at listing is rising
Compared to Q4 2024, we're seeing higher average mileage on vehicles listed in the $12k–$20k range — up roughly 8,000 miles year over year at the same price points. That's not inherently bad, but it does mean more wear-related findings in our inspection reports.

Private-party listings require more scrutiny
Roughly 60% of our inspections this quarter were for vehicles listed on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist. Private-party sellers are not required to disclose defects in Illinois, and we're seeing more sellers who know exactly what problems exist but don't volunteer the information.
What's working for buyers
The buyers coming out ahead this quarter are the ones who commit to a process: they identify vehicles, book a RideCheck before meeting to negotiate, and use the report findings to either confirm the price is fair or negotiate downward. Emotional buyers who skip inspection are the ones getting hurt.
